Some wedding days stop you in your tracks. Not because everything went perfectly according to plan, but because everything just felt right. The light, the people, the setting, the love in the room. Sami and Tyler’s day at the Cabins at Blacktail in Lakeside, Montana was one of those days. And as a Montana wedding photographer who travels for couples who want something truly intentional and special, this one is going straight into my heart forever.

Every detail was chosen with care. Every vendor showed up and gave everything. And Montana? Montana just does not miss.

A Montana Wedding Photographer’s Dream Venue: The Cabins at Blacktail

If you are planning an intimate wedding in Montana and you have not looked into the Cabins at Blacktail, let me change your life right now. Nestled on four heavily forested acres in Lakeside, Montana, this venue is unlike anything I have ever photographed. Six gorgeous tiny cabins sit on the property, each with their own private deck, full kitchen, and the most perfect vintage Montana cabin vibe. The creek runs right through it. The stars at night are unreal. And the Island, where ceremonies are held right by the water, is genuinely one of the most beautiful spots I have ever stood in.

But here is the thing that makes the Cabins at Blacktail truly special for a Montana wedding. The guests don’t just attend. They stay. Everyone gets a cabin. Everyone wakes up together the next morning. There are no rushed goodbyes at the end of the night, no one scrambling to find a hotel. Just your favorite people, tucked into the Montana forest, celebrating together for an entire weekend.

As a Montana wedding photographer, I cannot overstate how much that changes the energy of a wedding day. There is a slowness and a presence to it that you just don’t get any other way. Sami and Tyler absolutely nailed it.

The Details That Made This Montana Wedding So Special

From the moment I arrived on this property, I could not stop photographing every corner. The team that came together for this day was genuinely next level and it showed in absolutely everything.

Forage and Floral did the florals and I am still thinking about them. Lush, organic, and so perfectly suited to the Montana forest setting. The arrangements felt like they grew right out of the landscape and they made every single corner of that venue feel even more magical than it already was. If you are a Montana bride in the Flathead Valley area, please look them up immediately!!

The stationary from Lichen and Pines Letterpress was stunning. The kind of detail that ties the whole aesthetic together and makes every flat lay photograph feel like art. Sami’s dress from Dalliance Gown Rentals was absolutely dreamy and her Jimmy Choo shoes? A moment. A complete and total moment. Her jewelry from Luz Made added just the right amount of warmth and intention to the whole look.

The rentals from Empress Tents and Events elevated the outdoor reception space beautifully. A Montana forest as your backdrop and perfectly curated rentals filling the space? That combination is completely unbeatable.

The Food, the Cake, and the Somelier Because This Montana Wedding Ate

Can we talk about the fact that this wedding had a somelier?! Complementary MT brought the most beautiful wine experience to this day and it felt so elevated and intentional. Paired alongside catering from Forage 406, the whole meal was an experience in itself. The food was incredible and the whole setup felt so warm and celebratory and so deeply Montana.

And the cake from Mountain Mamas Cupcakery was gorgeous. The kind of cake that makes you stop mid-conversation because you just have to look at it for a second. Absolutely beautiful and I heard it tasted even better than it looked, which honestly feels impossible but here we are!!

The Couple: Why Sami & Tyler Are My Kind of People

Hair by Cultured Roots MT and makeup by Marcela Cloud Makeup had Sami absolutely glowing from the very first moment of the day. Tyler in his ASOS suit looked so handsome. They both just looked so completely themselves, which is honestly the best thing I can say about anyone on their wedding day.

Watching these two move through their day together, surrounded by the people they love most, all tucked into these beautiful Montana cabins for the weekend, was one of the most special things I have witnessed as a Montana wedding photographer. There was so much laughter. So much joy. So much genuine love radiating from every single person on that property.

This is what it looks like when a couple builds a wedding around what actually matters to them. Not the tradition, not the checklist. Just the people and the moments and the feeling.

Why Every Montana Wedding Photographer Should Shoot More Micro Weddings

Days like this one make me want to shout from the rooftops about micro weddings in Montana because the combination is just chef’s kiss. When you take an intimate guest list, a breathtaking Montana setting, an incredibly talented vendor team, and a couple who are completely present in every moment, something truly special happens.

You get photos that feel alive. You get moments that aren’t rushed. You get a wedding that feels like a genuine reflection of who you are as a couple rather than a performance for a crowd of 200 people.

Montana is one of the most stunning places in the world to get married. The landscapes, the sky, the forest, the light. All of it. And the Cabins at Blacktail is one of the most special venues in the state for couples who want something intimate, intentional, and genuinely unforgettable.

The Dream Team Behind This Day

This day would not have been what it was without every single one of these talented people. I am so grateful to have been part of it!!
